BUT.... WHY WALK?
Amsterdam MOON HouseBoat is built over 100 years ago as a river boat. The old skipper transported goods all over Europe. Later on, the boat was rebuilt as a catering boat. The new owner, -a passionate cook-, served food and drinks to skippers, while waiting for the locks to open in the waters of Amsterdam. If you ever get the chance to visit a lock and watch skippers shouting, -nervous that the boat will get damaged by an other skipper who's wife doesn't know hot to handle the ropes properly either-, you will instantly get the picture why the new owner stopped catering and emigrated to... Australia!
After the Skipper and the Cook... a Filmer bought the boat. At first he chopped wood every morning. This was his idea of a romantic way of living. But when the waters got frozen in Amsterdam, he realized that central heating, was not such a bad idea after all. He isolated the houseboat so well, that many Dutch musicians came here to (after) party and play their songs live. The Filmer emigrated to his neighbour next door... in order to get some proper sleep.
